Clay Rowell, PhD, NCC, LPC, CPCS

Hi. I’m Clay.
As a counselor, I help people feel comfortable telling their real stories with truth and honesty. It’s foundational to my practice as a therapist. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped men, women, and couples develop new perspectives about their lives so that they feel empowered to make positive changes. I guide clients to recognize and acknowledge disruptive or destructive patterns of behavior, reactions, thoughts, or emotions. Once identified, clients can grow beyond those patterns and discover a healthy process for healing and thriving in life.
We all have blind spots. We all get stuck sometimes. We all need help occasionally.
I believe that the most growth occurs in counseling when the counselor and client share a confidential, professional relationship based on genuineness, compassion, unconditional positive regard, and trust.
My Educational Background and Work Experience
I hold Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I also earned a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. UNCG is consistently one of the top 10 Counselor Education programs in the United States. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and am licensed to practice counseling in the state of Georgia. I also am a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Georgia. Finally, I am a professor and the Department Chair of Counseling at University of North Georgia.
As a counselor, I have worked in the following capacities:
